Left and right tonsils attached to the cerebellum. Little is known of their
function. It is believed that they are used for very advanced motor skills,
such as acrobatics, gymnastics, etc.
Cerebellum
Major part of the hindbrain consisting of two side lobes and a middle
lobe. Responsible for coordination of movement and balance.
Foramen Magnum
The large hole at the base of the skull that allows passage of the spinal
cord.
Medulla Oblongata
Lowest part of the brain-stem, located just above the spinal cord, at the
exit from the skull. Provides control for breathing and heart function.
Pons
Band of nerve fibers linking the medulla oblongata and the cerebellum with
the midbrain.
Posterior Cranial Fossa (PCF)
Also referred to as the Posterior Fossa. Formed by the dorsum sellę and
clivus of the sphenoid bone, the occipital bone, the petrous and mastoid portions
of the temporal bones, and the mastoid angles of the parietal bones.
Syringomyelia
An accumulation of spinal fluid inside the spinal cord due to trauma or
blockage of CSF flow. Commonly referred to as Syrinx.
